Day 9 - Run to the Coast

We left his parents this morning around 8:45AM and headed for the coast. He took Route 1 the entire way......oh my lord didn't I find that boring! We saw woods, woods, and more woods. He seemed to enjoy himself but, well, he's boring. I mean, heck, we were in danger of Canadians the entire time! You could have thrown a rock across the boarder!

We did stop at a scenic overlook and saw the most beautiful lakes but for some reason, knucklehead wouldn't let me go for a swim.

While I thought the lakes were beautiful, across the highway, they were advertising a "million dollar view". OMG! - look at it! Would you think this is worth that much money? Ha! It's just an unmowed field on a hill!

As a member of my fan club, I'm sure you agree!

We finally (!) made it to the rental house around 3pm. Nice place. He did a pretty good job finding this one. Unfortunately our access to the water is pretty poor. We had to hike through a wet field to get to the water's edge and then there was no way through the shrubs down to the beach.

Apparently we're going to have to share this house with some other family - I think they are itinerant workers, or something. At least by the look of them.

Next thing I knew, they were hiking across the neighbor's back yard, which was mowed and dry, to use their steps down to the beach! Wasn't I wicked embarrassed (btw, that's the way we Mainiacs talk)! And they started taking things from the shore - shells, sea glass, and sea urchins.

Later, we experienced what I can only assume is some local phenomenon - big bats, or chupacabra  or something of the like. Wicked frightening!

Things finally quieted down and the moon came up and peace settled over our somewhat awkward little band.

It's quiet here. No traffic sounds, no airplanes, no roar of people. Man - I miss Maryland! And cold! I'll tell you what - it was like 75 here and got down to 60 or so at night. If you look at the earlier picture of the family sharing my house, you'll see they are even wearing sweatshirts! Good thing I brought my thermals!
