Days 17 -> 19 - California Dreamin' and Saint Stephanie

Hidy ho, neighbors! Just thought I'd share a shot of me on the sunny beaches of California. Yeah, baby. I'm lookin' good and I'm feelin' good. Gonna tan all up and catch me some chickies. California dreamin', on such a winter's day...

Uh, what? Are you kidding me? I'm still in Maryland? This is just a freakin' birdbath! Aww, man! You got to be kidding me...

Alright, alright. I'll write that stuff in my fanzine but remember - I'm only doing it under duress. My people want to hear about me and my adventures, not you, sissypants.

OK, here's what's going on. (Hope I have HIPPO paperwork for you people). I'd last left you on our return from Maine with knucklehead having a girlie infection. Well, I guess it's just a bit more severe than I knew in my last entry and our trips to California and Idaho have been cancelled. Yeah, bummer. I know. Tell ME about it!

Seems he has a kidney infection and it has been deemed wise not to travel with it. Most likely he'd be fine to take the second leg of the trip to Idaho on Saturday but, not knowing and not wanting to make changes in the itinerary a second time if he were not ready, they decided to cancel both trips. Also, as a person with diabetes, an infection like this is much more serious for him than for your average Jane. Right - see what that means? I am sitting here at the house and doing nothing while he tries to recover. Great Scott! Couldn't he have just put on a didy like one of my fans (yeah baby, I know your watchin') suggested!?! But noooo... it's aways about him. He wants to do this. He doesn't eat that! He's still having fevers everyday!! Well, boo hooo...what? Oh, sorry. Yes, I'll continue.

So as of today, he's (see, it's still about HIM!) still having fevers throughout the days and evenings. And he's feeling the affects of the infection (nope - ain't going into that one!). He says that perhaps the only sign of improvement so far is that the fevers aren't lasting as long as they were and aren't as high. He's on the second antibiotic (first didn't seem to be working) and has been given an intravenous bag of saline solution along with an antibiotic (Sunday evening). And he's still waiting on lab results from his first visit on Saturday to show whether the bacteria is even responsive to the antibiotic.

And drink lots and lots of fluids. Seems he's finding out that recommendation doesn't include Diet Coke or Diet Mountain Dew. Oh my! What's a girl to do? One test also showed his bloodwork was off (just like him, I say!) and the doctor suggested he drink something called "Smart Water" or similar. So he's being forced to drink water and smart water - no sodas.

Can you even imagine what it's been like for me here the last few days? I mean, I've been mislead to think I'm in California but, instead, I've had two weeks of vacation cancelled! Meanwhile, he just sits around wearin' ice packs and reading while his wife does everything! For crying out loud, she's even out now mowing the lawn! He's lucky to have her - his own Saint Stephanie. I would have cut him lose years ago!

So, for those of you out there who can't start your day without news from the DucKie (you know who you are!), this is likely my last post. I'm not going anywhere - I got nothing to report! It's been fun while it lasted and I'm sorry it had to end prematurely.

Oh, and one last thing. I've gotten so much fan mail that I might have one more entry just to answer the questions. Kind of an FAQ - we'll see. Stay tuned.

Who loves you, baby?

  1. Awww ducKie! I'm so sorry you're stuck with a slug in MD. All is not lost though, you still have Saint Stephanie! I'm sure you two can conjure up something to do while the slug lounges

There is an obvious reason why the Dr. suggested "SMART Water" obviously the slug hasn't been so smart lately...good stuff I drink it too!

Honestly, I am sorry to hear that the slug is feeling so poorly and I am concerned about the knucklehead. Even more so since Jean ducKie is making the moves on replacing him permanently.

Never thought there would come the day that I would admit I miss having the knucklehead at work...but I do!

hmm...remember shortly before your trip his port was dorked and not getting his insulin...he was supposed to go home, but noooooooooo he didn't and stayed at work and toughed it out instead, obviously not the brightest move, it was probably the beginning of this illness.

Take care of him ducKie!!!! hope all is well very soon.

  2. Knucklehead asked me to thank my fan, Flynn Halon, for the kind words and added, "Flynn is obviously immune to the effects of the SMART Water," whatever that means.

  3. GOOD GRIEF!!! DucKie I'm sorry your trip ended prematurely, but I have heard that can sometimes happen and don't worry about it because it happens to everyone ;) (so I hear) Hopefully you can still kinda enjoy your time at home. It's hot like California anyways. Tell Knucklehead to get well soon and that we do miss him here. Jean is pretty neat, but he's no Knucklehead!

  4. ducKie...you really aren't missing much in CA right now....it's on fire AGAIN! besides, you would have been a bit chilly there since the temps are only in the 80's and NO HUMDITY - Knucklehead would not like that, since humidity makes him appear to have more hair...

You could always dump the Knucklehead and join your "peeps" here...they are having a ball, yesterday they took flight in a CH-53..yes, Phrogs forever!
